The Golden Retriever

The American Kennel Club describes the Golden Retriever breed as one of the most popular breeds in the U.S. This breed is inherently eager to please. Its working ability makes it perfect as a family companion, guide dog, hunting companion, or assistance, search, and rescue dog. Golden's are very intelligent and do well with children and most other animals. The golden-colored coat is the hallmark of this versatile breed and can range from light to dark gold.

Golden Retrievers are easy to train and do not do well with harsh treatment. They learn quickly, desire frequent attention, love to play ball and other games; and they love to swim. They are not meant to be kept outside, or away from the family. They are a very social breed and crave love and attention from their human family. This is a great family dog and in choosing a Golden Retriever you are acquiring a truly priceless animal / family member.

American Type - The American Golden is generally more slender than a European. A male usually stands from 23 to 24 inches (58 to 61 cm) in height at the shoulders, females are a little smaller; standing 21.5 to 22.5 inches (55 to 57 cm) at the shoulders. The males generally weigh 75-90 lbs. and the females weigh 60-80 lbs. American Golden Retrievers tend to be darker in color and sometimes a little more energetic, particularly in younger dogs. American type Golden's are loving, companionable, and very intelligent. Their hair tends to be finer, while the European’s hair tends to be thicker.

English Type - The European Golden Retrievers are bigger-boned, stocky, with a more square head and/or muzzle and are generally slightly heavier. Males are usually between 56 to 61 cm (22 to 24 inches) at the shoulders and females slightly shorter at 51 to 56 cm (20 to 22 inches). The British Kennel Club standard calls for a level top line and straight hindquarters without the slight rear angulations found in American lines. European Golden's tend to be lighter in color; some appear to be almost white although there is a broad color spectrum. The European puppies are very light with dark eyes and a very dark nose, some puppies will become a shade or two darker as they grow up while others will maintain their very light almost white appearance as adults. European Golden Retrievers tend to be a bit more docile at an earlier age than their American counterparts.

Our Breeding Program

We believe in a breeding program that continually perfects the breed. All of our dogs are AKC registered with champion bloodlines & excellent health backgrounds. All members of our family thoroughly enjoy showing and obedience training our dogs.  My Brother, Sister, Mom, & Dad have all owned a Noble Golden Retriever (or two) and love them as family members. All of our homes provide several acres of land for the dogs to run and play.

We are not a large breeding kennel; much thought and preparation goes into each litter. The end result is healthy, intelligent, gentle puppies with OFA Hip, Elbow, Heart, and Eye Certifications throughout their pedigrees. We plan only a couple of litters each year, one from each female, to select a puppy to show or to continue our line. The puppies we offer are from our loveable family pets that just happen to have champion bloodlines & excellent health records. We love our dogs and we feel good about providing healthy, loving pets to families who will enjoy and appreciate them as much as we do. Please visit our Available Puppies and Planned Litters pages, for puppy and new litter information.

Our Promise to you... We will be here for you every step of the way! You can look forward to pictures of your puppy as he/she matures from birth to 8 weeks of age (when you pick up your new puppy) and beyond for Puppy Academy Puppies. Feel free to ask us any questions; we want to be as helpful as we can. We provide health, nutrition, and training information when you take your puppy home and we are here to answer your questions as your puppy/dog matures. You become part of our extended family; we look forward to pictures and stories of your puppy's experiences and achievements.

Heritage of love... Noble of heart... Gentle of spirit... I shall grow to become your faithful companion... your defender... your best friend.
